Don Richardson: Live in the Philippines!
Kairos course graduates would know him best through his teaching videos used in the course. But just last month, a number of Kairos graduates in the Philippines had the privilege of seeing Don Richardson live as he himself came to be a blessing to the ministry of LSI and to key cities in the Philippines.
Don had pioneered work for World Team (formerly RBMU International) among the Sawi tribe of Irian Jaya (now Papua, Indonesia) from 1962-1977. He has since been serving as Minister-at-Large for World Team and speaks frequently in missions conferences and in Perspectives classes of the U.S. Center for World Mission. Don is the author of Peace Child, Lords of the Earth and Eternity in Their Hearts.
Don spent three days taping at LSI for new Kairos teaching videos that will be used for the 4th Kairos edition slated to be launched next year. He also did some taping for the Perspectives course which will be offered at LSI in September this year. A number of Kairos graduates came and listened to his teaching during the actual taping.
Don also conducted seminars and visited churches in Metro Manila, Cebu city and Davao city. The seminars he held in the three cities included: Cultural Compasses that Point Mankind to Jesus, Close encounter of a Cross-cultural Kind and Stars, Sand and Dust. The Philippine Missions Association, Asian Center for Missions-Cebu and Koinonia Theological Seminary partnered with LSI in hosting Don’s seminars in the said cities. Don also had a meeting with mission leaders held at the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) Philippines in Metro Manila coordinated by SIL.
Don’s teaching and insights based on God’s Word and his cross-cultural experience has grown richer through the years. Many of his audience during his teaching and preaching time in the country appreciated his ability not only to teach and preach but also the way he weaves his teaching with his own stories in the mission field and in his life as illustrations.
To the pleasant surprise of many, Don also brought some copies of his own paintings depicting tribal life as seen and observed by him among the Sawi tribe. He also brought copies of his books and DVD copies of Peace Child.
LSI is so blessed to have Don working with us with the Kairos and Perspectives courses. We could truly say that to us and to many others in the Philippines and beyond, he has truly been blessed to be a blessing.
