Kingdom Days in Thailand (A Report on the Kairos International Consultation Oct 20-23, 2008) By Delora Sales
Last October, a Kingdom agenda was tackled in a kingdom.
The Kairos International Consultation was held in the Kingdom of Thailand (Thailand’s official name) last October 20-23. A total of 132 delegates with 31 countries represented came to join the consultation held in the City of Chiang Mai.
Country Reports
To most delegates, the highlight of the Consultation was the country reports or “foot soldier’s reports” as one delegate from Kenya described them, referring to the advancement of God’s missions agenda through the influence of the Kairos course.
The delegates listened, clapped hands and thanked God upon hearing 17 reports covering 30 countries over the three days of the Consultation. A Divine wind has lifted up the Kairos course from its small beginnings in Butuan City, Philippines in 1994 and has “scattered it abroad.”
Reports included new opening for Kairos in churches, denominations, mission organizations and Bible schools resulting in mission mobilization taking place and ministry to the least-reached people groups.
New countries were also opening up to Kairos resulting in more translations being started.
Walking Together, Walking Far
“If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want walk far, walk together,” so goes an African proverb.
The Consultation was a time to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones. The sense of “family” throughout the Consultation was strong!
During the many informal fellowship opportunities, strategic networking took place resulting in plans for joint projects, assisting in translations, training and mission outreach!
Family of Courses, Post-Kairos Steps and Other Sessions
Sessions on the Kairos family of courses (for the Youth, for Kids, and the Kairos Oral versions) as well as sessions on Post Kairos steps (how Kairos graduates have journeyed on in missions after taking the course) were also held during the Consultation.
The Kairos course for Kids, a partnership with Kidzana, should be available by next year.
Post Kairos steps were highlighted during a “talk-show” presentation and through workshop sessions. Post Kairos sessions included the birthing of indigenous mission agencies, and the career person’s/businessmen’s pathway to mission involvement.
Discussion was also held on the next standard Kairos edition (Edition 4) due out in 2010.
Perspectives Link
A representative from the US Center for World Mission also attended the Consultation. Christy Graham was welcomed enthusiastically by the delegates.
Christy traced the link of the Kairos course from the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. Delegates appreciated seeing and understanding this link.
Worship, Word and Prayer
A Divine Kingdom event would not be complete without times of worship, word and prayer. A different country hosted each worship session including a song from their language in their worship line-up; it gave the times of worship an “all nations” flavor.
Each day started with a devotional word from a range of speakers representing different countries and focusing on a Kairos value. Prayer times were held after country reports as well as other times during the Consultation.
All 132 delegates showed up at the KIC along with the most sought after presence of all: the presence of the King of kings in our midst.
After all, tackling the Kingdom agenda would not be complete or even possible without the presence of the King.
