Kairos Continues to Spread in Brazil

Kairos continues to spread in South America’s giant: Brazil

Duncan and Jan, course coordinators from the United Kingdom recently held the 5th CursoKairos in Brazil. This was the second course to be held in Apascentar Church in Jacarepagua, Rio de Janeiro and it gave them an opportunity to train five new Brazilian facilitators.

There are now 56 Kairos graduates representing 27 different congregations and 13 trained facilitators (one of whom has now facilitated three courses in Brazil). Kairos has been used in 24 churches impacting six Brazilian States since April 2007.

Two pastors in Rio de Janeiro have requested three more courses using different formats in late 2008. These will provide opportunity to train more facilitators and for the participants to “go deeper” with the vision.

Duncan and Jan also spent one week in Goiania, central Brazil, a city where they used to live for 2 years. They were able to have a reunion with Kairos graduates for the first two courses they held in Brazil. Fifteen graduates attended, each with a story to tell of how Kairos had impacted their life.

Pastor Robsom, a Kairos graduate, is interested in using Kairos within his congregation of 200 members. He and two facilitators helped Duncan and Jan present the course to his group of 30 leaders and they are now planning an intensive 5-day course and a longer format course for September 2008. Another course presentation to a full congregation was held in Anapolis at the invitation of a Presbyterian church pastor who has missionary links with WEC in the UK.

Duncan and Jan also visited two Kairos graduates in the interior. Pastor Alexandre spoke openly of how God has turned his life upside down and given him new direction since he took the Kairos course. Duncan and Jan are currently looking at ways they can work more closely with him. This includes an invitation to some Brazilian missionaries working in another country to attend a Kairos course in early July 2008.

During the trip, Duncan and Jan saw the clear need to go deeper in training facilitators and in seeking a Head Facilitator who could begin to take the course independently and begin to develop a regional centre. Brazil is also such a vast country that they need a clear strategy as to where they should concentrate efforts for Kairos. For now, it seems that efforts can be focused in Goiania and in Rio de Janeiro.

Prayers are requested by Duncan and Jan as they seek to follow the finger of God for Kairos in Brazil.
